Little India

Little India,

gotten the name from the large group of Indian community living there, its full
of enthusiastic sellers who will provide you with the best of Indian shopping
experience in Singapore!. However, shopping isn't a "Indian-thing" but, EATING
is!. There are so much of restaurants filled with delicious north Indian food &
south Indian food and more!



Lets get to know the history of little india before we explore!
Little India, was reported to be a place for tamil convicts. However, with the

old little india

Serangoon River flowing by it was easier for Indians to take care of their
cattle. Districts like buffalo road or Kerbau road known now came from the
emergence of cattle trade. Cattle trading was a predominantly Indian trade.
"cattle-related" stuff like milk, meat trading could also be observed. Though,
not all Indians from India are successful at cattle trading, they also brought
in India's spices and goods to Singapore to make more business(this explains
why there are a lot of shops there).



Shops
Ranging from big shopping point like Mustafa Centre to small street shops can
be seen in Little India.

Mustafa Centre

Mustafa centre is well known for its goods and their prices. All the goods
purchased are reasonably fair price. Mustafa centre has all kind of goods that
you can think of. From groceries to latest and most popular video games
everything can be found here. Since almost everything can be found here, that
also includes the CROWD. Especially during weekends.




There are many different kind of street shops to be found in Little India.
There are shops where they sell fresh vegetables and meat. Don't look down on
where and how the shop is located is but fresh, i mean really fresh and
hygienic. There are also shops where they sell all the spices and cachet stuff
like sweet and sour Indian pickle. Also India is very very popular for their delicious snacks. There are a quite a number of shops which sells these snacks Home-made!.
Currently, due to increase in Technology
and media everywhere you might be hearing shops blasting music in their BIG
speakers. This is due to the primary reason where Indians really love arts and
musical.




FOOD
Mentioned in the top paragraph, Little India is all about food. No one leaves

this area without even eating a single Indian food. Many shops here have
variety of different foods. North-indian, south-indian or western fusion foods
can be found in the restaurants of Little India! Many shops like Saravana
Bhavan, Banana Leaf appollo, Komala Vilas, Kebab n curries, Ananda Bhavan and really more!


Frequent Festivals

Indian festivals like Thaipusam, Deepavali and Pongal really makes Little India More attractive. They would have so much celebrations, songs, dance, lighting etc etc to really make a good impact of Indian festivals in Singapore

.

Not to forget FORTUNE TELLING PARROTS!! these astrologist don't really have a
fixed address but they can be found sitting down on the side of the pathway.
Hindus believe in parrot fortune telling as it is a practise in India for a
very long time. What the parrot does is that, when the astrologist open the
cage the parrot is allowed to pick a card from the deck of Hindu god pictures
using its beak and give it to the astrologer. He then will explain the fortune
according to the star the customer was born and how the picture taken by the
bird is going to affect them.
